Inlet is located in Hamilton County within the Adirondack Mountains between Old Forge and Blue Mountain Lake on Highway 28 near Fulton Chain of Lakes and in the Northern Region of the state.
Inlet received national attention for 1906 arrest of Chester Gillette, charged with drowning his pregnant girlfriend; his subsequent conviction and execution were depicted in Theodore Dreiser's "An American Tragedy".
