Empire State Building

The Empire State, one of the world's tallest office buildings, is cemented in history. Visiting grandparents will remember the Empire State Building as the 1930's site of the fabled King Kong's last adventure. Built during the Depression, the building was a competition between Chrysler and General Motors' architects to see who could build the tallest building. The 1931 Art Deco building, rises 1,454 feet and 2 million square feet of floor space. Elevators ascend to the observatory, where one can see 50 miles. A glass-enclosed observation tower is on the 102nd floor.
