Dunkirk New York |
Dunkirk is located in Chautaugua County 27 miles north of Jamestown on Lake Erie between Silver Creek and Barcelona along Highway 5 near Lake Erie State Park and is in the Western Region of the state. Once Chadwick's Bay the town changed names because of its resemblance to its namesake in France.
It was once a center for making locomotives until the onset of the diesel engine, when such manufacturing shifted to Schenectady.
Dunkirk is part of the Jamestown, New York metro area.
