Corning New York

Corning is located in Steuben County 16 miles W of Elmira between Coopers Plains and Big Flats along Highway 17 on the banks of the Cohocton River and is in the Western Region of the state.

It was named for Erastus Corning an early developer and is known for its glassmaking industry, which began when the Brooklyn Flint Glass company moved here in 1868. The company later became Corning Glass Works.
