Canton New York |
Canton is located in St. Lawrence County 55 miles NE of Watertown between Potsdam and Richfield along Highway 11 on the banks of the Grass River and is in the Northern Region.
It was named for a district of Switzerland; another theory suggests the community was named for Canton, China. Settled by Vermonters in the early 1800s.
Canton is the home of St. Lawrence University--a small liberal arts school.
