Ardsley is located in Westchester County on Highway 9A between Yonkers and Elmsford near Dobbs Ferry and in the Southern Region of the state.
Ardsley is part of the New York, New York metro area.
It was named for the estate of Cyrus W. Field, whose company laid telegraph cable across the Atlantic. The main street was once an Indian trail extending from the Hudson River to Long Island Sound.
Early businesses included a sawmill, gristmill and three pickle factories.
