Part of the Salinas Pueblo Missions Natl. Monument Abo at one time, was a Tompiro Indian village and one of the largest Pueblos in the southwest, the village was abandoned in the 1670s. The 1620 church of San Gregrio de Abo was uniquely remodeled in the 1650s. It has a 40-foot buttressed curtain wall and is one of few surviving examples of medieval architecture in the United States. A self-guiding tour pamphlet, which includes the pueblo, can be obtained at the visitor center. Picnicking is permitted. Located nine miles west of Mountainair on Hwy 513.
