Paynes Prairie State Preserve

Within this national natural landmark, twenty distinct biological communities such as wet prairie, pine flatwoods, hammocks, and ponds; provide a rich array of habitats for animal life.

The visitor center interprets the natural and cultural history of this ecological area. An audio-visual program explains the preservation of the basin's natural landscape and a 50-ft observation tower stands near the center of the preserve.

Ranger-led activities are available November-April by reservation.
