Museum of Arts and Sciences |
One wing of this complex is devoted to Florida prehistory. The skeleton of a 130,000-year-old, 13-foot-tall giant ground sloth, -- one of the finest such examples in North America, -- is the highlight of the collection. Among the museum's other permanent collections are galleries housing Chinese, Cuban, African and early American art; changining exhibitions as well as public lectures and programs are presented throughout the year. Nature trails and a planetarium explore the natural world.
MOAS is a self-guided museum, and small- to medium-size groups are welcome without reservations; large groups should notify museum before arrival. Guided tours during regular open hours must be arranged in advance. Open Tuesday-Sunday; closed major holidays.
