Morikami Museum & Japanese Gardens |
This unique 200-acre oasis of pine forests, nature trails, waterfalls and lakes is home to the only museum in the US dedicated exclusively to the living culture of Japan. Since its opening in 1977, the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens has added a 32,000-sq-ft building in which expansive galleries are filled with Japanese arts and crafts, and demonstrations of the Japanese tea ceremony are regularly scheduled at the Seishin-an teahouse. A 225-seat theater for lectures and performing arts, th e IBM Infotronic Gallery multimedia resource center, and a cafe are also housed here. A recently completed $3.5 million garden expansion features new garden areas and nearly a mile of pathways.
The museum's original building, the Yamato-kan, is m odeled after a Japanese residence and features displays relating the history of the Japanese Yamato Colony which settled in Boca Raton. Closed Mondays & major holidays.
