John Gorrie Museum State Park

This Florida state park features historical and scientific exhibits are relating Apalachicola area history and one of its most renowned residents, Dr. John Gorrie, the inventor of man-made ice, refrigeration and air-conditioning. Displays include a replica of Gorrie's ice-machine, built from the specifications of his 1851 patent, on display in the museum. The visitor center is highlighted by a statue of Gorrie, and is open to the public Thursday-Monday; closed major holidays. Located at the corner of Sixth Street and Avenue D, one block east of Hwy 98, on Gorrie Square.
