Historical Museum of Southern Florida |
The Historical Museum of Southern Florida explores 10,000 years of history and folklife in Miami, southern Florida, and the Caribbean. Located in the heart of Miami,- the Gateway of the Americas,- the museum offers illustrated essays, virtual exhibits and information, and permanent exhibits of folklife that include photographs and multicultural articles.
The Museum is now offering 'Historic Tours.' Among favorite museum collections are John James Audubon's circa 1830s 'The Birds of America' prints of Florida's birds; the Claude C. Matlack Collection featuring 'The Roaring Twenties' period in Miami Beach and Miami; 'Cuba Postcards' look at some turn-of-the-century views of Cubans; and the Miami Centennial Quilt, whose blocks commemorate Greater Miami's first century, 1896-1996; Native American displays, and Aviation and Maritime exhibits; visual materials (photographs, prints, postcards, maps, etc.)can be accessed at the museum's
