Gamble Mansion/Memorial State Hist Site

The Gamble Mansion and Judah P. Benjamin Confederate Memorial State Historic Site was once a prosperous 3,500-acre sugar plantation from about 1845 to the late 1850s. The antebellum mansion is furnished in the style of the period. At the end of the Civil War, Judah P Benjamin, Secretary of State of the Confederacy, found refuge here before escaping to England. Picnicking on the grounds is permitted; tours are given Thursday-Monday beginning at 9:30a.m.
