Gainesville-Hawthorne Trail State Park

This State Recreational Trail offers unique views along 16 miles, from the city of Gainesville's Boulware Springs Park through the Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park and the Lockloosa Wildlife Management Area. The recreational trail follows the railroad bed that was laid from Fernandina to Cedar Key, and that figured so largely in Gainesville history.

Today's trail has been designed for use by hikers, bicyclists and equestrians; parking is provided at three trailheads. The trail starts at SE 15th Street; travelers then make their way near Hwy 301 to trail's end at Hawthorne.
