Fort Clinch State Park

One of the oldest sites in the Florida park system, Fort Clinch was occupied by both Union and Confederate troops during the Civil War. The fort was never actually completed, and more powerful armament soon made the fort's masonry walls obsolete. Today, the Park Service offers visitors a living-history interpretation of this historic facility. The 1,100-acre park grounds include a nature trail at Willow Pond, a paved roadway through the hammocks, and both river- and beach-area campgrounds; the river campground is partially paved with moderately accessible bathhouses. A ramped fishing pier nearby offers an observation area as well freshwater fishing; the beach campground features a boardwalk. Other recreational activities include swimming, hiking, and candlelight tours of the fort. Located in Fernandina Beach, off A1A.
