Falling Waters State Recreation Area |
This area derives its name from a natural waterfall system that is one of Florida's most notable geological features; the sinkholes here were designated a State Natural Feature in 1980. Falling Waters Sink is a 100-ft-deep, 20-ft-wide cylindrical pit into which flows a small stream, dropping 67 feet to the bottom; the water's final destination is still unknown.
The recreation site offers full-facility and youth camping areas, as well as areas for swimming and picnicking. Nature trails guide visitors through the park's unique features and formations, and an overlook platform provides an excellent view of the waterfall and sink. In addition to the main sink, the hilly terrain is honeycombed with other limestone sinks that can be seen from the boardwalk. Located 3 miles south of Chipley, off SR77A.
