Fakahatchee Strand State Preserve

Florida's beautiful Fakahatchee Strand contains the largest stand of native royal palms, as well as the largest concentration and variety of wild orchids in North America. Approximately 20 miles long and 3-5 miles wide, it is home to some unique species of wildlife. Threatened and endangered species such as the Florida panther and the Everglades mink still make the Strand their home.

With an eye to preservation of these important living resources, facilities and activities at the site are limited; however, a 2,000-ft long boardwalk enables visitors to experience the beauty of this one-of-a-kind swamp habitat. A small lake is available at the site for swimmers.

Located on Janes Memorial Scenic Drive, just west of Copeland (Hwy 29).
