Don Pedro Island State Recreation Area |
This Gulf Coast recreation area includes approximately one mile of white sand beach, acquired by the state for public use. Besides the excellent year-round swimming and shelling available here, visitors may take advantage of the island's picnic pavilion, tables and grills, as well as public restroom facilities. During the summer, the park's beaches are used by sea-going loggerhead turtle; turtle eggs are not to be disturbed.
Day-use docks are available for boating and fishing, located on the bay side via a channel from the Intracoastal Waterway south of the Cape Haze powerline crossing. The park is accessible by private boat only and is located on a barrier island between Knight Island and Little Gasparilla Island in Charlotte County.
