De Leon Springs State Recreation Area |
This 603-acre recreation site offers a variety of activities that include including swimming in the famous 72-degree spring water which gave the city its name; a ramped entrance to the spring pool is available.
Among the site's other attractions is the Old Spanish Sugar Mill, now a public grill and griddle house; each table is equipped with a griddle and pitchers of homemade batters to make their own pancakes at the table.
Fishing is abundant and the park includes a boat launch, as well as boat rentals. Other amenities include picnic pavilions, volleyball court, horseshoe pits, and a playground area.
The De Leon Springs area is contiguous to the Woodruff National Wildlife Refuge, which is easily accessed by water; canoe, kayak, and paddleboat rentals are also offered for exploring this habitat.
