Cross City is located in Dixie County west of Gainesville along US Highway 27 near the Suwannee River and the Gulf of Mexico.
Flight Services for the Gainesville area had its beginning in the mid 1950's. They were located at the abandoned Army Airfield in Cross City, Florida. It was known as Cross City Radio. They were a part of the CAA, Civil Aeornautics Administration.
