Cedar Key Museum State Park

This Florida Gulf Coast state park is located on picturesque Cedar Key. Seven miles of wide, white beach mark this unspoiled barrier island at the mouth of Charlotte Harbor, accessible only by boat or ferry. Among the park's features is a museum dedicated to St. Clair Whitman, operator of Cedar Key's first museum. Most of Whitman's impressive collections are displayed; other exhibits relate Cedar Key-area history from pre- to post-Civil War eras.

The house that Whitman lived in is being restored to its historic 1920s-30s appearance and will be opened to the public when construction is completed.

An Interpretive Center is available, as well as canoeing or hiking the beach or interior trails by foot. Ferries are based at the 4-Winds Marina in Bokeelia, 20 miles west of North Fort Myers and Boca Grande Pass Marina.
