Windsor California

Prior to Windsor's earliest settlers arriving, the area that is now Windsor was known only as a "beautiful green valley with sturdy oak trees," with grass that grew as high as the girth on a horse's saddle. It was early in 1855 that Windsor got its name. Hiram Lewis, a pony express rider for the county, named the community "Windsor," presumably because the area's pastoral beauty reminded him of the grounds surrounding Windsor Castle in his native England.

Windsor is a beautiful town that is home to many artists and artisans. Windsor has gained an international reputation for its abundance of beautiful parkland. Windsor is also close to many wineries and state parks.

Windsor is located in Sonoma County between Healdsburg and Santa Rosa near Lake Sonoma and the Pacific Ocean. This small suburb is located north of Santa Rosa on Highway 101. There is also a Windsor, England.

Windsor is part of the Santa Rosa, California metro area.
