Western Aerospace Museum |
First of all we're in an authentic hangar in a location that takes you back in time the minute you turn off Hegenberger Road. Plus, everything that happens at the Museum is the direct result of donated time, energy, artifacts, and funds. The facility houses an educational center, an administration building, a gift shop, a restoration shop, an outdoor exhibition area and a 5000 book library. The Port of Oakland provides these facilities. The hangar, now full of historic aircraft, was built in 1940 by the Boeing School of Aeronautics and was used to train aircraft mechanics for the U.S. Army Air Corps and U.S Navy during World War II.
Exhibits on Jimmy Doolittle, 8th Air Force, Black Wings, and more are presented at the museum.
