The three-story ocean-front resort is certainly the most elegant place along the North County coast. Site of the old Hotel Del Mar, a favorite Hollywood escape during the '20s, '30s and '40s, L'Auberge retains the Golden Era air of lavish glamour.The lobby is filled with marble, skylights and potted palms, and a double-sided fireplace keeps the atmosphere cozy. The restaurant, 15th Street Grille, serves its regional California cuisine inside among slate floors and wicker-back chairs,or on the terrace with waterfalls and streams. For the less regimented spa-goer, Durante's Pub features microbrewed beer and wine. The spa program features a la carte treatments, including aromatherapy, underwater massages and loofah treatments. Among the best bets are the spa sampler packages, great for blowing off a little steam over the weekend.
