Veterans Home of California

Still in operation after more than a century, The Yountville Veterans Home was established in 1884 by Mexican War veterans and members of the Grand Army of the Republic as a home for California's aged and disabled veterans. In January 1897, the group deeded the home and its 910 acres of land to the State of California, which has maintained it since.

Today, the mission of the Home is to provide long term residential care for veterans of all wars. The Home has its own recreation programs and facilities, including a 1,100-seat theater, swimming pool, golf driving range, and creative arts center. Room and board fees are based on ability to pay, providing financial security to those on fixed incomes.
