Silver Strand State Beach

Located on the sandpit that forms the outer edge of San Diego Bay between Coronado and Imperial Beach, Silver Strand has 2.5 miles of ocean beach and a 1/2-mile on the bay. The name comes from the silvery seashells found on the parks seaward side. Grunions spawn in the summer, the Pismo clam is common, and beachcombing is good for finding horn shells, moon snails, cockleshells and an occasional sand dollar. Occasionally porpoises and the migrating gray whale can be seen from the beach. The park is popular for swimming and the beach features a picnic area.

The beach is located 4.5 miles south of Coronado on Hwy 75. Beach hours are from dawn to sunset.
