Shafer Vineyards was founded in 1979 by Chicago publishing executive John Shafer, who, with his family, moved to Napa Valley to pursue a second career in wine. Today, this winery produces 30,000 cases of world-class Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot and Sangiovese. The Shafers own and farm 170 acres of vineyard which produce 85% of the grapes for Shafer wines, from the steep and rocky estate vineyards of their acclaimed Hillside Select Cabernet to the cool Carneros district, source for Shafer Red Shoulder Ranch Chardonnay.
Shafer Vineyards is open by prior appointment only for those who arrange a tour and tasting. These are scheduled Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. Please make your reservations at least 4-6 weeks in advance. A tasting visit is $25 per person anda a tour of the facility is optional and follows the tasting.
