San Francisco Maritime National Historic |
Located at the west end of Fisherman's Wharf, the park includes Aquatic Park, a bayside park and a recreation area with 1/4 mile of beach and a lagoon. Hyde Street Pier at the foot of Hyde Street displays ships dating from the late nineteenth century. Visitors can board three of them. Demonstrations and programs are offered. 415-556-3002.
The Maritime Museum displays the history of water transportation from the 1800s to the present. Model ships, maritime artifacts, fine arts and photographs are included.
The San Francisco Maritime Library is at Fort Mason, Building E, and houses more than a quarter million historic photographs, documents, and maritime literature. Admission to the library is free. 415-556-9870.
