San Diego Zoo |
One of the largest zoos in the world, the San Diego Zoo has more than 4000 animals living in enclosures that closely simulate their natural environment. Highlights include walk-through aviaries, an impressive collection of primates, and a large number of reptiles. Habitats also include Gorilla Tropics, Tiger River, and the Sun Bear Forest.
The zoo is landscaped with over 6500 plant species, including tropical and subtropical varieties. Moving sidewalks stretch from the deep canyons to upper levels. An aerial tramway runs from the main entrance to the Horn and Hoof Mesa, .3 miles away.
The zoo opens daily at 9:00 a.m. Please call for admission prices. Admission is free on the first Monday of October, which is Founder's Day.
