One of southern California's most engaging coastal towns, Santa Barbara has attracted the wealthy set for more than a century with lush foliage, clear-blue skies, ocean vistas, and the striking Santa Ynez Mountains. The city's motif is Mediterranean featuring many buildings with red-tile roofs, wrought-iron gates, and adobe exteriors. Golden beaches and the thriving outdoor cafs and restaurants also contribute to the Mediterranean ambience.

Santa Barbara is located in Santa Barbara County, of which it is the county seat, north of Los Angeles between San Luis Obispo and Ventura along US Highway 101 near Lake Cachuma and Lake Casitas.

Santa Barbara is part of the Santa Barbara-Santa Maria-Lompoc metro area.
