Roaring Camp Railroads

Thru the Redwoods!

A man by the name of Isaac Graham settled in the area of the camp in the 1830s. Soon after, Mexican authorities named Grahams settlement Roaring Camp. Not long after, the areas first railroad, the Santa Cruz & Felton, began carrying tourists to the Big Trees and to the beach in the 1870's.

The Roaring Camp and Big Trees Narrow Gauge Railroad runs from Roaring Camp Station through the redwoods of Santa Cruz County and has been in operation since 1985. The 6-mile round trip on an 1880-steam train is made in an hour and a quarter. Picnicking is permitted and a barbecue lunch is offered on weekends from May through October. Times and fares depend on train and time. Please call for information.
