Bayley House

This magnificent Gold Rush-era hotel and stage stop in Pilot Hill was one of the finest homes in California during the 19th century, an impressive three-story "Gone with the Wind" style mansion in the rolling hills of El Dorado County. Completed in 1862, and built with 300,000 bricks manufactured on location, the Bayley House encompasses 10,000 square feet and has 22 rooms. A circular staircase climbs to the the Grand Ballroom, offering panoramic views of the Sacramento Valley, Sierra foothills, and nearby towns.

This historic home was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in the 1970s. Plans are underway to restore the mansion to its former glory, and perhaps make it into a museum.
