Point Montara Light Station

On the rugged California coast, just 25 miles south of San Francisco sits the Point Montara Fog Signal and Light Station. Established in 1875, the building has been restored by Hostelling International, American Youth Hostels and California State Parks, with the U.S. Coast Guard.

Activities include whale watching, beachcombing, swimming, surfing, jogging, horseback riding and biking. The location is on Highway 1 between Montara and Moss Beach. The hostel offers 45 beds. Reservations are always advisable, and are essential during the popular season. Office hours are 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
