Placerville California

The center of the Western Slope of El Dorado County is Placerville, the seat of government for the County. Placeville is at the foot of the Sierra Nevada Mountains where the hills begin to become mountains. Sitting at an elevation of about 2,000 feet, the old section of town has been restored and offers great shopping. The City of Placerville owns and operates Gold Bug Mine, the only gold mine in California that is open to visitors.

Placerville is located in El Dorado County, of which it is the county seat, just east of Sacramento between Rancho Cordova and Pollock Pines along US Highway 50 near the American River and Folsom Lake.

Placerville is part of the Sacramento, California metro area.
