NBC has been a broadcasting pioneer since 1926. NBC started as a radio network in the 1920s and evolved into a television broadcaster in the 1940s. Today, NBC is a diverse media company reaching over 198 million homes worldwide. NBC was the first permanent broadcasting network in the nation, and the first U.S. coast-to-coast radio broadcast.
NBC employs over 7,000 people worldwide and NBC programs have been honored with nearly a thousand Emmy Awards (more than any other network) and more than 100 Peabody Awards.
NBC Studios offers tours lasting an hour and a quarter taking visitors through the broadcasting complex. Special effects demonstrations, wardrobe and makeup departments, sound effects rooms and Studio 3 are featured. Studio 3, where the "Tonight Show" is taped is open only when available. No cameras or tape recorders are allowed during the tour.
