Murphys California

Queen of the Sierra

Historic Murphys, California is located between Yosemite Village Park and Lake Tahoe, in the Sierra foothills. This is a historic Goldrush town with many buildings dating back to the gold mining era.

Visitors and residents of Murphys can enjoy tree-lined Main Street. The atmosphere takes visitors back to the mid 1800s with buildings bearing thick stoned walls, iron shutters, and gardens with white picket fences.

Murphys came to be in 1848 when John and Daniel Murphy established a trading post and gold mining operation in the area that is now their namesake.

Murphys is located in Calaveras County northeast of Modesto between Jackson and Sonora along Highway 4 near Lyons Lake and the Beardsley Reservoir.
