Mission Santa Barbara

The mission, known as the "Queen of the Missions," was founded on the Feast of Santa Barbara in 1786. Completed in 1820, it is one of the best preserved of the Spanish Missions. The original living quarters for missionaries and their guests are now museum rooms, filled with period artifacts.

The mission church contains examples of Mexican art of the 18th and 19th centuries. A Moorish fountain, built in 1808, graces the front of the mission.

The mission is open daily excluding Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Admission is free and donations are gladly accepted.
