Programs include: "physical development" to assist each medically and physically involved individual in developing, improving, or maintaining self-care, along with social, cognitive, vocational, and leisure skills; "sensory development" to enable individuals to develop and enhance self-care and other life skills. "Habilitation and social development" programs assist individuals in developing critical life skills necessary for successful transition into the community, by providing training in personal management, community awareness, independent living, educational, social, and leisure skills. Programs in "behavior adjustment" ameliorate or significantly modify severe maladaptive behaviors which interfere with learning potential as it affects further development and habilitation; and "adult physical and social development" programs provide individuals with a well-rounded developmental program in addition to basic nursing and physical health care.
