Lake Oroville |
Created by Oroville Dam on the Feather River, Lake Oroville is a popular recreation destination. In 1968, Lake Oroville was added to the Northern California water system and is the tallest earthen dam located in the United States. Over 770 feet high and 6920 feet across this structure does make an imposing addition to the landscape. Lake Oroville has been rated as one of the best bass fishing spots in California and also provides numerous opportunities for water sport activities such as houseboating and water skiing.
The Visitor Center is located 9 miles from Oroville and overlooks the lake and Oroville Dam, with exhibits depicting the Gold Rush era and state water projects. It is open daily except for New Years Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
The Lake is stocked with silver salmon, kokanee, brown and rainbow trout. There is some fishing for sturgeon, bass, and other fish as well.
