Lassen Volcanic National Park |
Lassen Volcanic National Park covers over 100,000 acres in an area that experienced volcanic activity as recently as 1921. The main remaining mountain is Lassen Peak, which is the tallest, but not by much. Mount Tehama, that has vanished under the combined effect of glaciers, erosion, and hydrothermal alteration of volcanic rock. Gurgling mudholes called "Mudpots" and roaring fumaroles are found in the southern half of the park.
Points of interest include the Lassen Park road a30 mile drive between the southwest entrance and Manzanita Lake - Weather, Cinder Cone, Butte Lake, and Bumpass Hell Trail.
Park headquarters is a mile west of Mineral on Hwy 36. Maps, information, and bulletins can be obtained through the mail or by email.
