The park covers more than 870 square miles north of Interstate 10 and east of Desert Hot Springs. Granite formations and mountain ranges rise from flat valleys in this California desert country.

There are nine primitive campgrounds in the park and all supplies, including firewood, must be carried in. The Oasis Visitor Center in Twentynine Palms has displays and is open daily except Christmas.

There is an admission charge of $10 per vehicle to the park.
