In 1974, the California Society for Clinical Social Work founded CICSW as a statewide school-without-walls to meet the need for post-master's clinical education and training of licensed clinical social workers. In 1992, the Institute expanded its admission policies to include master's-level therapists with an MFT license who demonstrate a commitment to the principles underlying clinical social work. In exceptional cases, pre-licensed individuals may be admitted.
Independent tutorial study with a Mentor, Colloquium (small study group), a Research seminar, Convocations, Practicum (The students own agency or independent practice is the practicum for the program), Clinical supervision with clinical consulting faculty and a Dissertation proposal tutorial.
