Mills College

Founded in 1852 as Young Ladies Seminary, Mills College granted the first B.A.'s for women west of the Mississippi in 1889. In 1921 they granted their first Master's degree and the initial Ed.D. in Educational Leadership was awarded in 1999.

Among 24 undergraduate academic divisions are Biochemistry and Molecular Biology; Modern Languages & Literatures and Political, Legal and Economic Analysis. The nine graduate-level programs include the Master of Fine Arts in Painting, Ceramics, Intermedia, Sculpture, or Photography and in the Computer Science area the Master of Arts in Interdiscplinary Computer Science or the New Horizons Computer Science Certificate.
