Holy Names College

Holy Names College was founded in 1868 when six Sisters of the Holy Names arrived in California from Montreal, Canada. The teaching order, founded to provide education to the poor, had been invited to Oakland by Father Michael King to establish a school for girls and to train future teachers.

HNC's curricula includes such majors as: Biological Science; Business; Computers and Communications; English; History; International Relations; Liberal Studies; Music; Philosophy and Religious Studies; Pre-Law; Pre-Professional Health Science; Psychology; Sociology and Spanish Studies.

Post-graduate work offers Masters degrees in Business Administration, Counseling Psychology, Culture and Spirituality, Education, English, Music, Nursing and Pastoral Ministries.

The College is located in Alameda County, CA, and an enrollment of about 1000 and student housing is available for 384.
