California Institute of Technology

In September 1891, Pasadena philanthropist Amos Throop rented the Wooster Block building in Pasadena for the purpose of establishing Throop University, the forerunner of Caltech. In November of that year, Throop University opened its doors to 31 students and a six-member faculty.

Biology; Engineering & Applied Science; Humanities & Social Sciences; Chemistry & Chemical Engineering; Geological & Planetary Sciences and Physics and Mathematics & Astronomy form the nucleus of the undergraduate programs. The Master of Science is also awarded.

CalTech is located in Pasadena, Los Angeles County with a total enrollment of about 2000. Student housing is available for 1590.
