The California College of Arts and Crafts was founded in 1907 by Frederick Meyer to provide an education for artists and designers that would integrate both theory and practice in the arts. In recent years the Oliver Art Center opened on the Oakland campus, housing a professional gallery. New majors have been added: industrial design; fashion design; and three new graduate programs in design, visual criticism, and writing.
The Fine Arts Program, featuring area of emphases from Ceramics to Photography to Textiles; the Design Program (from Fashion to Industrial) and the Architectural Studies Program form the framework for undergraduate studies.The MFA and the MA are also offered.
The College has campuses in both San Francisco and Oakland and has a total enrollment of about 1300. CCAC is located in Oakland, Alameda County, CA, with a total enrollment about 1100. The program leads to bachelors degrees and masters degrees.
