Huntington Library, Art Collection

and Botanical Gardens

The botanical gardens occupy 150 acres of the 207-acre estate of Henry E. Huntington. 15,000 varieties of plants, shrubs, and trees are contained in it. The library contains several extremely rare items, including a Gutenberg Bible, the Ellesmere Chaucer, and early editions of works by William Shakespeare. The art collection features 18th century British and European paintings, rare tapestries, miniatures, sculptures and period furniture.

Also on the grounds is the Virginia Steele Scott Gallery of American Art. The gallery displays paintings from the early 1700's to the early 1900's.

Guided tours of the garden are conducted at 1:00 daily except Monday. The grounds are closed on Mondays and holidays. Admission is free to all on the first Thursday of the month.
