George J. Hatfield State Recreation Area

Surrounded by the Merced River in the San Joaquin Valley, George J. Hatfield State Recreation Area offers swimming, picnicking and fishing. The area was once home to Native Americans. The park has many trees and is home for various wildlife especially birds.

From Interstate 5 take the exit into Newman and continue east on County Road J-18 for 5 miles; the park entrance is just past the San Joaquin River Bridge.
