Empire Mine State Historic Park

For more than 100 years, Empire Mine in Grass Valley was one of the largest, deepest, longest operating mines around, producing nearly 6 million ounces of gold. The park contains many of the mine's buildings, the owner's home and restored gardens, as well as the entrance to 367 miles of abandoned and flooded mine shafts. There are eight miles of trails in the park.
