Downey California

In the 1800s, Downey was one of many towns to spring up due to the gold rush. The city derived its name from John Gately Downey, an Irish immigrant who had come to California during the Gold Rush, and succeeded to Governor of California.

Today, Downey offers many business resources and cultural activities, making it a wonderful place to settle. Plus, there are 750-plus retail stores, and approximately 100 are located in the central business district. Downey also has recreational and library programs providing activities for all ages. There are also 11 city parks in Downey.

Downey is located in Los Angeles County on the eastern city limits of Los Angeles between Pasadena and Anaheim along Interstate 5 near the Pacific Ocean.

Downey is part of the Los Angeles-Long Beach, California metro area.
